To top it all off, there was even a cartoon version too.
#1990 NOSTALGIA TOYS PLUS#
On the plus side, they were hours of fun, inexpensive, and pretty cute. The bad side was the weak pully mechanism, someone getting a wing in the eye or the fairy deciding they don't love you any more and going over the neighbour's fence. You clip the fairy/angel/whatever into the stand, pull the string really hard and your dancer goes flying up into the air and spins and twirls as it falls to the ground. This is a toy that, upon reflection, could have been one of those pointless toys advertised in Family Guy.
#1990 NOSTALGIA TOYS HOW TO#
If anyone remembers how to play POGS feel free to post the rules in the comments. Hours were spent in the school yard swapping POGS or just showing them off. To this day, I still haven't got a clue how they were supposed to be played, but I had some really fancy ones and a super fancy holder for them too. There was a game to go with them, but I never played it. I tried explaining the concept of POGS to a chap who didn't grow up in Ireland recently and the look on his face really hit home as to how weird these things were. Not to mention the scream from his mother when she sees the state of the carpet afterwards. Worst of all if they did snap, they were filled with corn syrup with one of my friends' dolls being filled with.RED syrup!! I kid you not! Imagine the horror of the children when they see what looks like blood shooting out of their toy.

They were supposed to retract after you stretch them out, but the manufacturers forgot that they're dealing with little kids here who naturally, would stretch him as far as they could on the first go and he'd either snap, or stay like that. Probably the most pointless toy I ever encountered in my childhood, but man were those things popular! Stretch Armstrong was the toy that most boys wanted and then would play with them once and realise just how terrible they were. I handed them all over to one family I babysat (apart from the Crystal Ball because that one's a rare one) and hope they had as much fun with them as I did.

Yes their faces rubbed off after a while or they broke in half (sorry Prince Charming), but they were hours of fun for me and for some of the kids I babysat. This included Cinderella's Castle, the Fashion Show make up case, Disney Polly Pockets and the only one I still have, The Crystal Ball. d'uh!) and before I turned 10 years old, I had close to 40 Polly Pockets. This was closely followed by a house (because every newly married couple needs a house. The bride wasn't bendable as her dress was too poofy and, well, rigid, but she had a veil and little pink roses in her headdress and had brown hair just like me. You had a bride, a groom, a bridesmaid and a guest if memory serves me right. The first one I ever had was the pink sea shell that, when you opened it up, was a wedding chapel. For those of you youngsters who are only familiar with the ones that are as big as a dolls house, let me take you back to a time where these things really did fit in you pocket. I'm going to start off with the toy I was probably most well known for, my epic Polly Pocket collection. We’d also love to hear about what your fondest memories and favorite toys were from your childhood, so don’t be shy and drop on by the comment section.1990s toys: Pollu Pockets Pic: PollyPocketWorld/Instagram Oh, and don’t forget to upvote the toys that you loved playing with the most. Keep in mind that some of these toys are from even earlier still, but they were still very popular in the '70s, '80s, and '90s. However, we here at Bored Panda know that there are lots of you Pandas who are nostalgic for the '70s, '80s, and ‘90s, so we’ve compiled this fun list of the toys you likely played with during that decade. And a yearning for a more carefree era in my life. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t pop in some batteries to play Mario, Donkey Kong, and Pokémon on my GameBoy Color when I feel like I need a break from ‘The Real World.’ When it rains, when I get the blues-it’s nostalgia time. I’ve still got a huge box of toys from my childhood that I love to go through from time to time.
